What Is EEAT and Why Is It Important For SEO?

SEO in 2024 is changing and in my opinion, it’s for the better. Google’s not the only one a little tired of AI generated content and information. Like humans, Google wants to be sure information that is published on the internet is of quality, relevant, true, trustworthy and reliable. It’s never been more important to fact check and rely on trustworthy sources of information.

Did you know that AI generated information is not always true or reliable and can often be falsley fabricated?

SEO in 2024 - It’s time to cut the crap and produce unique, helpful, high quality information and content. Don’t just pump out Ai generated words and content. It’s becoming more and more obvious to readers when something has been written by robots or humans.

Let’s explore Google’s EEAT, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness, and Experience.

This isn't something that is altogether new. Google first began to introduce this into the algorithm in December of 2022. However, over time this has become more and more important to the organic performance of your site. In the last 6mths, Google’s major algorithm updates have proved that she has decided to clean house and purge the crap.

In this latest blog update, we will be breaking down everything you need to know about EEAT:

  • Why is EEAT important for SEO?

What Exactly Is EEAT?

EEAT stands for Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness, and Experience. These aren't just random words, they're the backbone of your website's credibility in the modern search algorithm. Put simply, you NEED EEAT to rank effectively in Google Search.

Let’s take a closer look at what each of these four terms mean.

Experience

Recently added in 2022, experience focuses on practical knowledge. It’s not just what you know theoretically but how you've applied it in real-world scenarios. Writing with first-hand experience will make your content more valuable for users and search engines alike.

Expertise

This is all about what you know. Your content should showcase your knowledge and skill in your field, whether you're a plumber discussing common issues or a dentist exploring the options for a cracked tooth.

Authoritativeness

This builds on expertise. It's about being recognised by others in your field. When reputable sites link back to you or industry experts mention your business, it signals your authority. Think of these like votes of confidence from other sites for your own website.

Trustworthiness

Can visitors trust your information? Trust is built through honest, transparent content, secure website functions, citations, and an easy way for visitors to contact you. Even a neat Contact Us page helps.

Why Is EEAT So Important for SEO?

Think about it: when you’re searching for information, don’t you want it from someone who knows their stuff and has a reputation for reliability? Google feels the same. Websites that demonstrate EEAT are likely to rank higher because they provide users with a better, more trustworthy experience.

Practical Tips for Demonstrating EEAT on Your Website

So, how can you make sure your website reflects these important principles of EEAT Here are some straightforward strategies that you can use:

Show Off Your Expertise

Regularly update your blog with detailed, well-researched content. Don’t shy away from sharing your qualifications and experiences that add credibility to your advice.

Boost Your Authoritativeness

Engage with other experts in your field. Gather backlinks from well know, reliable and reputable sites in your industry. These actions help build your authority.

Enhance Trustworthiness:

Make sure your website is secure (yes, HTTPS & SSL certificate matters!). Be transparent about who you are, and always provide a clear way for customers to reach you. NAP in your footer is always recommended, Name, Address and Phone Number.

Share Your Experience

Include case studies, testimonials, and personal stories that highlight your practical knowledge. Let your audience see the real-world application of your expertise. For example, would you prefer to listen to someone who has 1 year experience in an industry or 10 years?

Google’s Fact Checker Tool

The Fact Check Tools consist of two tools: Fact Check Explorer and Fact Check Markup Tool. Both tools aim to facilitate the work of fact checkers, journalists and researchers.

This tool allows you to easily browse and search for fact checks. For example, you can search for a politician's statement, or for a topic. You can also restrict results to a specific publisher.”
